MAGELLAN AEROSPACE TO BEGIN ASSEMBLY OF LUU-19B/B INFRARED ILLUMINATION FLARES

Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg (Magellan) is readying to begin the assembly of LUU-19B/B Infrared (IR) Illumination flares at the company’s Rockwood propellant plant. This achievement marks another successful milestone in Magellan’s expanding scope of involvement with the licensed production of the LUU flare products for Canada.

Magellan received a $17M contract from PSPC in December 2021 to supply DND with a production lot of LUU-19 flares. This is a follow-on contract to the recently completed $48M LUU-2 Search and Rescue flare for Canada. Under the LUU-19 contract, Magellan will complete the igniter assembly, live fitting, final assembly, and packaging.

The LUU-19 IR flare supports the Canadian Forces when operating in low light conditions. When used in conjunction with night vision equipment, the infrared illumination allows personnel to see nighttime terrain, the ocean, and the battlefield with minimal visible light.

Final assembly of the first production lot will begin in Q3 2024 with deliveries to Canada in Q1 2025.
